GyrotonicŪ training is three-dimensional exercise taught
on specially designed weight and pulley based equipment. Founded by Juliu Horvath, in the principles of swimming, yoga, gymnastics,
dance and tai chi, GyrotonicŪ training is a series of circular and fluid exercises that works the entire body through muscular,
skeletal, and cardiovascular stimulation. The system is intended to improve flexibility and balance as well as muscle strength,
and to increase overall flexibility and mobility in joints.
Unlike most conventional exercise machines where linear or
isolated movements are performed, the Gyrotonic Expansion SystemŪ emphasizes multiple joint articulations without compression,
thus strengthening ligaments and each attachment. Currently, the Gyrotonic Expansion SystemŪ is used worldwide delivering
great success with dancers, athletes, rehabilitation facilities, as well as general conditioning for people of all walks of
life, age and health.
Maryanne Chaney has studied GYROTONICŪ and GYROKINESISŪ since
2000 and in 2004 became a certified GYROTONICŪ instructor. She is also a certified Pilates instructor. As a dancer and choreographer,
she has studied many forms of movement including ballet, modern and irish dance as well as yoga and Alexander technique. She
is continually inspired by GYROTONICŪ and enjoys uniting all of her movement knowledge and experience into teaching.
